Within the SFI Fieldlab Food, Health and Ingredients new insights regarding the health value of fruits and vegetables are being created. Everyone knows that eating fruits and vegetables is good for you. But what is exactly the effect of fruits and vegetables on our health?
Within several public-private partnerships the health effects of a range of nutrients in plants are being studied. This leads to interesting results. For instance on anti-inflammatory properties of tomato based lycopene and immune-modulating properties of beta-glucans from mushrooms.
The Fieldlab Food, Health and Ingredients is being carried out by Brightlands Campus Greenport Venlo, an innovative ecosystem in which entrepreneurs, scientists and students work together on determining nutritional value, effective food education and improving health with personalized nutrition. The campus provides an array of state-of-the-art R&D facilities. Not only to work on determining health effects of nutrients, but also to study agricultural innovations to influence these bioactive nutrients in plants. In addition, the Fieldlab can help you explore potential valorisation routes for plant based bioactive ingredients (e.g. food, supplements or pharma).
